Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies say a Brandon man driving at a high rate of speed on Bloomingdale Avenue caused a three-vehicle crash Wednesday night that led to one death and several injuries.
According to the agency, Matthew Repass, 20, was heading west on Bloomingdale Avenue around 8:30 p.m. when he lost control of his Toyota Scion. The Toyota began to rotate and crossed over the center lane into eastbound traffic, an email from the agency said.
The Toyota ended up striking a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Mario Moreno, 54, of Valrico. It then traveled off the south road edge, hit a chain-link fence and stopped near a pond.

As the first collision was occurring, Lee Ann Browne, 64, of The Villages, was heading east in a 2009 Hyundai. Brown couldn’t stop in time and hit the Trailblazer in the right side.
Repass, deputies said, died at the scene.
