Dover Double Homicide Suspect Arrested In Kentucky

The man is accused of killing an elderly couple in Hillsborough County. The sheriff's office said he was caught driving the victims' vehicle

DOVER, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a 48-year-old man in connection with the deaths of an elderly Dover couple.

The sheriff's office was notified just after noon on Friday that Michael Herald was located in Hazard, Kentucky.

"Herald was arrested as he exited a county park while driving the victim's 2015 Ford Explorer," the sheriff's office wrote in an email to media. He now faces two counts of first-degree murder, the agency noted.

The search for Hazard was announced following the Thursday night discovery of the couple's bodies at their McIntosh Road home. Sheriff’s deputies went to the home of Nancy, 73, and John Engelhart, 76, around 7 p.m. Thursday to perform a welfare check. Once there, they met with the person who filed the complaint. The person told deputies the Engelharts had not been seen in several days. Their mail was also piled up and their vehicle was missing, an email from the sheriff’s office stated.

“Deputies discovered the two deceased inside of a shed on the property,” the email said. Detectives were then called in and a warrant was issued to search the 10075 McIntosh Road home, the agency noted.
