2nd Arrest Made In Gas Station Homicide

Plant City Police announced a second suspect was in custody late Sunday night.

PLANT CITY, FL — The Plant City Police Department has announced a second arrest in the April 8 murder of a 67-year-old Michigan man at a Mobile station.

According to the agency, police and members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested Al'kwaun Ty'relle Nakiss Dixon, 18, Sunday. Dixon now faces a first-degree murder charge and three counts of armed robbery, among other charges. The arrest of Xavier Quesean Smith, 19, was announced last week.

Dixon and Smith are charged in connection with the death of Michael Joseph Beson of Standish, Mich. Beason was pumping gas at the 2010 N. Wheeler St. Mobile station around 8:20 p.m. April 8 when an armed robbery attempt occurred. Beson reportedly stepped between the would-be robbers and his wife. While the robbery was thwarted, Beason suffered upper body trauma and died at the scene, police wrote in a previous email to media.

Smith also faces first-degree murder charges in the case.

While two men are in custody, police say the investigation into Beson’s death remains active. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Detective Chad Rader at 813-757-9200.
