Police: Arrest in Downtown Disney Rape Investigation (Update)

A naked woman was found wandering near the House of Blues last Thursday morning.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect Thursday in an alleged rape that occurred at Downtown Disney last week.

According to the sheriff’s office, a woman was found by a security officer wandering naked outside of the House of Blues around 5 a.m. July 16.

Hector M. Herrera, 27, is charged with sexual battery. He was arrested at his Orange County home and transported to the Osceola County jail.

The woman told deputies she had been drinking with friends at her apartment before heading to the Disney bar the night before. Police found the woman’s clothing, her purse and a used prophylactic in the area.

“She remembers being at the House of Blues and dancing, but not leaving,” a sheriff’s office incident reported stated. “The victim has no recollection of how she came to be found naked and disoriented.”

On Tuesday, the agency released surveillance photos of a man it had identified as a person of interest in the case. Deputies were able to speak with the man Wednesday, the sheriff’s office announced Thursday, prior to announcing the arrest.

The woman, who has not been identified, told deputies she was unware if she had been involved in any sexual activity, “but was certain any sexual activity she was a party to was not consensual.”

The woman was initially found lying in the grass and shrubbery naked, the report noted.

Downtown Disney is a dining, shopping and entertainment hub in the Walt Disney World Resort. The area is home to such attractions as the House of Blues and Cirque de Soleil. The entire area is undergoing renovation and is being renamed Disney Springs.
