Amtrak Train Hits Car at Tampa Crossing
A man reportedly drove into the path of the train. The railroad crossing arms had lowered for the oncoming train.

An Amtrak train hit a car in Tampa around noon on Saturday.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the railroad crossing arms had lowered for an oncoming train and traffic was stopped at the intersection of Broadway and East Tampa Boulevard.
A vehicle driven by Jermaine Lamar Williams, 26, of Valrico traveled in the oncoming lane of traffic, went around the vehicles and proceeded through the lowered train crossing arms when he was t-boned by the train, the sheriff’s office said.

Williams suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Tampa General Hospital.
The Amtrak train had 103 passengers on board as well as nine crew members. The conductor estimated the train to be traveling at about 78 mph.

According to Hillsborough deputies, no one in the train was injured.
Williams was cited for driving around or under a railroad crossing.
