Area Seniors Invited to Celebrate 22nd Annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day at The Estates at Carpenters

Senior living community to offer free Gentle Yoga session

On May 27, 2015, The Estates at Carpenters, a not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community, will celebrate the 22nd Annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day by inviting Polk County area seniors to join its residents for a free Gentle Yoga session.

During the session, The Estates at Carpenters resident and instructor Bunny MacMunn will lead attendees through basic ATHA yoga poses, which are designed to increase flexibility.

Also coinciding with this year’s Senior Health & Fitness Day theme, “If You Keep Moving…You’ll Keep Improving!,” The Estates at Carpenters’ PT Director of Rehabilitation Services Lilybeth Lucas will inform attendees on how to overcome a sedentary lifestyle and combat the “sitting disease”. With approximately 50-70 percent of people sitting for six or more hours a day, this lifestyle can have major implications on a person’s health including shortening their life expectancy. During her presentation immediately following the yoga session, Lucas will provide attendees with tips to increase daily activity levels.
