
The Florida Highway Patrol has released the name of a bicyclist killed in a Dec. 2 crash on U.S. 41 near Madison Avenue.
According to the agency, Rosember Vasquez-Sanchez, 43, of Tampa was riding southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 41 south of Madison Avenue shortly after 3:30 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound vehicle. Troopers say Vazquez-Sanchez, “for unknown reasons” entered into the travel lane of a 2003 Ford van driven by Luis Armando Ortiz, 35, of Tampa. Ortiz’s van struck the bicycle.
Vazquez-Sanchez died at the scene. His name was released Monday evening after authorities made contact with his family in Mexico.

The crash remains under investigation with charges pending.
