Bills Aim To Make Guns Legal At Airport Terminals

Two Tampa Bay area lawmakers filed identical bills that would make it legal for some people to carry guns at airports.

LITHIA, FL — Packing heat at the airport may no longer be off limits for Floridians if twin bills filed by two Tampa Bay area lawmakers gain ground.

Sen. Wilton Simpson, R-Trilby, and Rep. Jake Raburn, R-Lithia, filed identical bills in the Senate and House that would make it legal for concealed weapons license holders to bring their weapons into airport terminals. The bill would not enable permit holders to bring guns into so-called sterile areas of an airport, such as those controlled by the federal Transportation Security Administration.

The identical bills were filed on Thursday. The 2016 legislative session gets under way next week.
