Brandon Motorcyclist Killed In Crash At Orient Road, Hillsborough

TAMPA, FL – A 39-year-old Brandon man died Tuesday, Oct. 2, in a crash on Orient Road and Hillsborough Avenue.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 7:30 a.m. Felipe Mendoza, 41, of Tampa was driving his Nissan pickup truck north on Orient Road in the left turn lane to turn onto westbound Hillsborough Avenue.

Ryan James Simpson, 39, of Brandon was driving his Honda motorcycle west on Hillsborough Avenue and stopped for a red light in between the travel lanes. He then entered the intersection, colliding with the right front of the pickup truck as it was turning.

Simpson died at the scene. Mendoza was uninjured.
