Brandon Residents Get New Roof After Tornado Strikes Home

The roommates and their dog huddled in a bathroom as the tornado ripped off the roof.

BRANDON, FL -- Tricon American Homes provided two Brandon residents and their dog a furnished home after a tornado tore the roof off their home until all repairs could be made to return the home to its original condition.

Lance Ross, 33, and his roommate had relocated from Ohio for construction work in Tampa. They lived together in the home on Climate Drive in Brandon for three years before an unexpected and severe thunderstorm spawned a tornado on Jan. 20.

The roommates huddled in a bathtub on the side of the house and heard the tornado roll through the home, tearing off the roof and sending shards of glass and insulation throughout the living room. The men turned off the main breakers, which public safety officials commended as the quick thinking saved the structure.

With the home uninhabitable, Ross put in an emergency request and immediately received a response from Tricon American Homes (TAH) who accommodated the roommates with dinner, a temporary completely furnished home nearby and a moving service to use while packing up belongings.

“It was the scariest thing I have ever experienced and Tricon American Homes went above and beyond, going to these great lengths, to make the transition for us as easy as possible,” Ross said. “They were helpful and caring and we’re truly appreciative. We didn’t expect this level of customer service and we couldn’t have asked for more.” TAH is a leading owner and operator of single-family rental homes in the United States with approximately 17,000 homes in 16 markets, predominantly located in the Sun Belt. TAH’s portfolio is concentrated in neighborhoods with good school districts, strong resident demographics and proximity to major employment centers, providing families with a viable alternative to homeownership.
