BRANDON, FL -- A 17-year-old girl riding a skateboard has died of her injuries after being struck by a car.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Sky Anna Marie Taylor was riding her skateboard to work at Publix at 6:42 a..m. Saturday, March 23. She was in a bicycle lane near South Gornto Lake Road and Providence Lakes Road when she was hit by a Volkswagen Passat driven by a 25-year-old woman, also on her way to work.

She was taken to Tampa General Hospital where she died around 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with sheriff's deputies. Deputies say Taylor was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident, and an investigation shows that she was riding on the fog line, which separates the bicycle lane from the other lanes of travel.

The driver did not see her, striking Taylor with the right front portion of her vehicle. The driver stopped to call 911.

Taylor was a junior at Spoto High School in Riverview.

No charges have been filed for the driver against the driver.
