Brandon Regional Hospital Unveils Renovated, Expanded Women’s Center

The public is invited to tour the newly renovated and expanded Women's Center at Brandon Regional Hospital on Aug. 6.

Ten months after work got under way, is celebrating the birth of its newly renovated and expanded Women’s Center with a community open house kicking off at 9 a.m. Aug. 6.

“We are very pleased to have completed this project as it continues to enhance the integration of all women’s services offered at Brandon Regional Hospital,” said Mike Fencel, the hospital’s chief executive officer, in prepared remarks.

“It’s a much more comfortable and welcoming environment,” added hospital spokesperson Patricia Montgomery, in an interview Aug. 5.

Renovations began at The Women’s Center in October of 2010. The renovations took place on the hospital’s first and second floors.

On the first floor, the hospital moved perinatal services to the Women’s Center, expanded the waiting area, designed a new entry and expanded the expectant mothers’ drop-off area to include a larger canopy.

The second-floor renovations included a redesign of rooms for mothers-to-be who need inpatient care and women undergoing gynecology procedures.

“The rooms are private but can accommodate two beds,” Montgomery said. “We might have a patient who needs to stay for more than a month and who is going through a very difficult surgery, and that can be very frightening. They have the option of adding an extra bed so a family member can stay with them.”

The rooms also can accommodate a second bed, as in the event of an emergency, such as a hurricane, she added.

As Fencel noted: “Putting women’s services in one location allows women a dedicated entrance for a variety of services and allows our specially trained staff and physicians to practice in one location, improving the delivery of care to our obstetrical and gynecology patients.”
