Child Drowns in Pond at Plant City Wedding

A 4-year-old Ocee boy is dead following a drowning in Plant City Friday night.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office, Nathan McGeen, 4, was attending a wedding at Kathleen’s Garden and Grandpa’s Event Barn, 5701 Pless Road, in Plant City when he wandered off the dance floor around 6:50 p.m. The boy’s parents noticed him missing a few minutes later and began searching for their son.

At 7:05 p.m., the boy’s father saw the child in a small pond on the property and pulled him out. An off-duty Pasco County firefighter in attendance at the wedding began CPR while 911 was called. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene, took over life-saving efforts and transported the child to Florida Hospital.

The child died a short time later, the sheriff’s office said in an email to meida.

The investigation into the death is active. No decision on criminal neglect charges has been made at this time.
