Convicted Felon Arrested For Attempted Murder In Dover

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a convicted felon accused of shooting another man on San Diego Lane in Dover.

DOVER, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a convicted felon accused of shooting another man on San Diego Lane in Dover.

According to the sheriff's office, around 6:30 p.m. June 29, Jose Manuel Zayas, 30, shot a man once on San Diego Lane in Dover and drove away. Minutes after the shooting, the shooting victim called 911 and reported seeing Zayas leaving in another vehicle.

Deputies stopped the vehicle at a convenience store at 3185 N. Dover Road, about a mile from the shooting.

A handgun was found inside the vehicle that uses a shell that matched the casing of one found at the shooting scene.

The victim suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive.

"Thanks to the great investigative work of our detectives, this suspect is behind bars," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "He faces several charges, including attempted murder in the second degree. He remains at the Falkenburg Road Jail with no bond at this time."
