Fatal Vehicle Vs. Fire Truck Crash Closed U.S. 301

The fatal wreck happened Tuesday around the time of a second collision. Both wrecks had authorities asking motorists to stay away.

A Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crew responding to a crash on U.S. 301 Tuesday afternoon found itself involved in a separate accident.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the wreck happened around 2:27 p.m., south of Franklin road.

Troopers said the truck was responding to a call in emergency mode when it was struck by another vehicle. The vehicle, identified as a 2012 Lincoln, was heading southbound when it for unknown reasons crossed into the northbound lanes, striking the fire truck. The fire truck was responding to a crash further north on U.S. 301, the patrol noted in a report.

“The occupant of the vehicle sustained fatal injuries and expired at the scene of the crash,” Sgt. Steve Gaskins of the highway patrol wrote in an email. The firefighters were not injured.

The driver of the Lincoln has not been identified as of yet.
