Proving yet again the vow to protect and serve also extends to four-legged creatures, a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy braved the mud to rescue a calf in need.
The little critter had managed to get itself stuck in rather thick mud at Valhalla Pond Drive and Gornto Lake Drive in Brandon on Monday. Spotting the critter in distress, Deputy Christina Ammons didn’t waste time rolling up her sleeves and pitching in to assist.
“Happy to say, the calf was reunited with a very nervous mamma who helplessly watched from the field,” the sheriff’s office wrote on its Facebook page following the rescue.

The calf’s rescue is one in a long list of saves credited to local law enforcement officers as of late. Last year, a Clearwater Police officer went to great lengths to rescue a feisty bird that had been injured while Tampa Police and residents pitched in not too long ago to save a kitten trapped in a storm drain.
