Deputy Stabbed in Attack at Brandon Hospital

The 6-year veteran received minor injuries while his attacker got to take a trip to jail.

A 37-year-old Riverview woman faces criminal charges after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says she attacked one of its deputies at Brandon Hospital Wednesday night.

The incident unfolded around 7:03 p.m. when Deputy Brian Dawsy responded to a disturbance call at the 119 Oakfield Drive hospital. The disturbance, an email to media from the sheriff’s office stated, involved a complaint about a woman and her mother.

While Dawsy was trying to trespass the mother, the daughter is accused of attacking the deputy from behind, trying to stab him in the neck with a pen, the email stated.

The woman “was able to stab Deputy Dawsy in the neck and right forearm before he and the hospital staff were able to subdue her,” the email stated.

Dawsy suffered minor lacerations and bruising to the back of his neck and the left side of his face, the sheriff’s office stated. He also has a cut and bruising on his right forearm. Hospital staff treated him on the scene and he was able to return to patrol, the sheriff’s office noted.

Lisa Trant of 11045 Wintercrest Drive, however, was taken to the Orient Road Jail. She was booked on a single count of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. Trant remained behind bars Thursday morning in lieu of $15,000 bond, according to jail records.
