Details Emerge in Fatal 3-Vehicle Brandon Area Crash

A Seffner woman died following the Saturday evening crash.

A three-vehicle crash along Kingsway Road Saturday evening that left one person dead and several others injured all began when one vehicle struck a mailbox.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Linda Slater Yancey, 70, of Seffner was heading northbound on Kingsway around 5:49 p.m. when her van hit a mailbox and then began to travel north in the southbound lanes.

As Yancey’s van headed the wrong way, a truck driven by Donald Gaswint, 54, of Brandon was heading south on Kingsway, just south of Cactus Road. Gaswint swerved left of center to avoid Yancey’s van, the sheriff’s office wrote in an email to media, but Yancey’s van hit the right rear of the truck.

A third vehicle, a Volkswagen driven by Charla Pfeffinger, 71, of Peking, Ill., was traveling behind Gaswint at the time. The Volkswagen was hit head-on by Yancey’s van, the sheriff’s office stated.

Yancey was taken to Brandon Hospital where she later died. Gaswint took himself to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Pfeffinger and her passenger, Lyle, Pfeffinger, 76, were both taken to Tampa General Hospital. Charla Pfeffinger was last listed in critical condition and Lyle in serious, the sheriff’s office stated.
