Dover Couple Starved 14 Horses, Cops Say
The two now face a number of criminal charges.
A man and a woman from Dover face a host of criminal charges after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says they failed to properly feed 14 horses in their care, leading to the death of one of the animals.
The couple, an email from the sheriff’s office stated, fed the creatures so little that they suffered “malnutrition over an extended period” and lost a high percentage of their normal body fat. One of the horses died from the neglect, the email stated. Another had a tail injury that went untreated.
Deputies arrested Dale Jahnke-Davis, 53, and Humberto DeJesus, 54, both of 4936 Garland Branch Road over the weekend. Both were charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and 12 counts of cruelty to animals.
