TAMPA, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that took place at 10:21 a.m. Tuesday, May 22 on Interstate 4 just east of the U.S. 301 exit.
Troopers say a Fedex tractor-trailer truck was traveling east on I-4 in the outside lane when the left front tire blew out. The driver, 22-year-old Lazaro Villarreal-Santana from Tampa, lost control of the truck and swerved toward the middle lane where he collided with a 2012 Chevrolet Volt driven by Jordan Stynda, 19, of Crystal Beach.
The impact spun the Volt around and the car came to rest along the paved inside shoulder. The Fedex truck continued into the median where it collided with a guardrail and overturned. Villarreal-Santana died at the scene. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.
