FibroFest2014 Music & Art to Raise Awareness

Fibromyalgia Awareness Concert

May 12th

is International Fibromyalgia Awareness Day in honor of this day; FibroFest is a

FREE concert and awareness event to celebrate of the lives of people surviving

with Fibromyalgia (FM). The idea is to use music and art to encourage Awareness

and Support. At FibroFest, we will

have information about Fibromyalgia and resources for those who wish to learn

more about this illness or who would benefit from

additional support related to a FM diagnosis.

We are blessed to have some of Tampa Bay’s best

original and cover bands volunteering their time and talent for a full night of

music. The lineup includes: Mr. Grumpy,

TranKQuill, Virginia Rose Band, Dark Savvant, Bryan James, Yoshi Gish
and KathySings4u. The night will be hosted

by Mr. Robert Hoffa aka “Hanging with The Hoff”.  Sound and lighting are being provided by Mr.

Steve Kimpton.

Dean Guitars has very generously donated a Custom

C350- Trans Power Purple 6-String electric guitar which

will be raffled off at the show, tickets are $5/each or $20/5 tickets. There

will be awareness jewelry for sale from a local artist.

In support of Fibromyalgia Awareness, the week

of May 12th FibroFest sponsors Pinup

Tattoo Studio
in Brandon, FL will ink you with a Free Purple Awareness

ribbon tattoo. They have also donated a $100 gift certificate which will be

included with other prizes and raffle items during FibroFest.

Ever wonder what the hell Fibromyalgia is? What it feels like to live

with it every day? Know someone with it and wonder how they can seem fine one

minute and totally not fine the next? I assure you, those commercials where the

lady takes a pill and her life goes back to normal IS NOT reality! Join us and

take the Fibro Challenge! Unlike Fibro patients, you will win a prize… for us

the prize will be the day that a cure or better yet a preventative is found!

For you… it will be something cool from one of our AMAZING sponsors.

Fibromyalgia

(fy-bro-my-AL-ja) is a complex chronic pain disorder that causes body wide pain

(muscles, joints, tendons), tenderness to the touch, stiffness, chronic

fatigue, sleep disturbances and cognitive difficulties. FM patients often

suffer with some or all of the following: depression, anxiety, migraines,

tension headaches, sensory sensitivity (light, sound, and odors), pelvic pain,

bladder issues, IBS, TMJ, and reflux. Symptoms of fibromyalgia can vary in

intensity from patient to patient as well as from day to day for a given

patient.  Fibromyalgia affects people

physically, mentally and socially.

Approximately 10 million Americans (2-4%) have FM; it is more common in

women than men.  It occurs in people of

all ages, including children. Fibromyalgia is known as an invisible illness

because there isn’t a test to diagnose it and unlike other chronic illnesses,

FM patients appear (on the outside) to be perfectly healthy. Treatment for

Fibromyalgia focuses on relieving symptoms and improving function. There is no

cure for FM. Fibromyalgia and its comorbid conditions alter patients’ lives

every day, for some it is just an annoyance helped with medications, dietary

changes and complimentary treatments, for others it is completely debilitating.

Funds raised

will be used to offset the costs of producing FibroFest2014 and so that we can meet our goal of Painting

Tampa Bay PURPLE for FibroFest2015!!!
