Fire Rescue Tackles 3-Alarm Fire At Indoor Shooting Range

What began as a one-alarm fire quickly turned into a three-alarm at the Shoot Straight Gun Range and Store Friday.

TAMPA, FL -- What began as a one-alarm fire quickly turned into a three-alarm at the Shoot Straight Gun Range and Store Friday.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue was called to the gun range at 3909 N. U.S. 301. around 1 pm. to find smoke pouring out of the back of the building.

After making sure the building was evacuated, firefighters began attacking the flames inside. The blaze appeared t be centered around a backstop on the shooting range at the rear of the building.

It took crews 30 minutes to get the smoky fire under control because several areas continued to re-ignite after the initial flames were extinguished, including an extension of the fire between the ceiling and the roof. Foam and water were used in the attack, and firefighters had to break through at least one area of the roof to access those areas beneath the roof of the structure.

Due to the extended nature of the fire and the need for crews to continuously cycle into the building, a second and then a third alarm was called.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office closed northbound U.S. 301 as a safety precaution. No injuries were reported.

The cause is under investigation.
