Florida Silver Alert Issued for Missing Brandon Man

Frederick Erwin was last seen April13 leaving his home at 1806 Bryan Road in Brandon. His wife said in his confusion he might be en route to Massachusetts, where the 80-year-old man once owned an auto body shop.

Deputies are asking for help in locating a missing Brandon man.

A Florida Silver Alert was issued today, April 14, for Frederick Erwin, 80, who was last seen April 13 leaving his home at 1806 Bryan Road in Brandon, possibly en route to Massachusetts.

 According to his family, Erwin has cognitive impairment and suffers from diabetes and high-blood pressure. Erwin is 5-foot-6, 172 pounds and balding, with tattoos on both arms.

He is believed to be driving a silver 1994 Mercury Marquis, with damage to the rear bumper and yellow primer with Florida tag 704-JQX.

Erwin left home with only $20 and has no credit cards, cell phone, GPS or road maps and does not have the ability to operate a phone to call home or for help. He has wandered away in the past.

Erwin's wife of 47 years said in an interview that her husband had been talking about wanting to return to Massachusetts where he ran a auto body shop for 35 years.

"He had been mentioning it off and on over the last few weeks," said Leona Erwin.

The couple moved to Brandon in 2003.

"He must be so nervous out there because he doesn't know how to get around here," said Leona Erwin.
