Gas Under $2 in Florida's Future?

AAA says it's possible in the coming days.

Tampa Bay area residents hitting the road for the holiday season are likely to find some good news at the pumps.

The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the state of Florida was down to $2.479 as of Sunday, according to AAA – The Auto Club Group. That’s down from $2.603 just a week ago.

While gas prices have fallen below $2 a gallon in states such as Georgia and Tennessee, they haven’t quite reached that mark here, but AAA says that could change soon.

If the trend in a 2-cent a day drop continues, gas under $2 a gallon could happen in the Sunshine State by the end of the week, AAA reported.

“Gasoline prices are plunging with little sign of slowing down,” Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman was quoted in a media release as saying. “Oil prices dropped for the fourth consecutive week because of increased oil production and low demand, and that’s keeping downward pressure on the price of gasoline. It is unclear exactly how low prices will go, but gasoline will keep getting cheaper as long as oil does.”
