Armwood High's Hough Takes Home State Wrestling Medal
The Armwood Hawks freshman won the 106-pound state crown Saturday in Lakeland at the state finals.
LAKELAND — On a day when the Brandon Eagles cast a gigantic shadow, a tiny Hawk shone brightly.
Armwood High freshman Donoven Hough (49-3) completed his run at the 106-pound, Class 2A state title Saturday by getting past junior Jacob Wasserman (35-4) of King High in a hard-fought, 2-1 decision. Hough is now 4-0 against the older Wasserman.

Patch: How tough was this 106-pound bracket?
Hough: I caught a break with an early default but then I had a hard time with Matt Landgraff of Springstead.

Patch: What is going through your head just before that starting whistle blows?
Hough: Go, get after him. Leave no doubt on the mat.
Patch: What is the best wrestling advice you have ever had?
Hough: Keep moving, don't stop. If you don't move, you get scored on.
Patch: What does it mean to you to bring attention to the Armwood wrestling program?
Hough: It means a lot, especially because I'm just a freshman. It brings a new sight to the wrestling community.
Patch: Talk about that title match.
Hough: I knew the first take down was going to be key, then I got it. He chose down for the second round and I knew i had to just ride it out.
