Hillsborough Deputy Injured In State Road 574 Crash
The deputy was reportedly rear-ended by a suspected impaired driver while on a traffic stop Friday morning.

A 38-year-old Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy suffered minor injuries when his SUV was struck by a suspected impaired driver Friday morning.
According to the sheriff’s office, K9 Deputy Craig Lariz, a 12-year veteran, was conducting a traffic stop on State Road 574, just east of Falkenburg Road, around 1 a.m. Lariz was in his 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe with emergency lights activated when a 2015 Dodge Journey heading westbound on State Road 574 struck the rear of his vehicle, the sheriff's office wrote in an email.
The impact of the crash caused the Dodge to roll over.

The Dodge’s driver, Taylor Shelby, 26, “exhibited signs of impairment, admitted to drug use and blood was taken pursuant to consent,” the email said.
Lariz was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries and was later released. Shelby was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not life threatening, deputies say. Charges in the case are pending.
