Investigation Underway Into Death Of 33-Year-Old Jail Inmate

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the death of a 33-year-old inmate at the Falkenburg Road Jail.

TAMPA, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the death of a 33-year-old inmate at the Falkenburg Road Jail.

On Dec. 1, Marcus Antonio Young collapsed while walking through the visitation area to meet with a relative. Young fell forward and struck his head on the floor. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he remained until he was discharged on Dec. 3.

He was brought back to the Falkenburg Road Jail infirmary where he continued to be monitored but was taken to Brandon Regional Hospital on Dec. 7 when he lost consciousness. Young was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Surveillance video and interviews with jail staff and inmates confirmed that Young wasn't injured by another person when he originally collapsed.

The sheriff's office is awaiting the results of an autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office this week.

Young was in custody on charges of sexual battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and armed imprisonment.
