Little Miss Pageant Takes the Stage Sunday

A preliminary event takes place in Brandon for girls ages 6 and under and 7 and up.

Young ladies with their hearts set on becoming the next Florida Little Miss will compete Sunday for the chance to go the next step.

The Tampa Bay area preliminary round of the Little Miss pageant takes place at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay, 213 N. Knights Ave., in Brandon with registration and noon and the competition starting at 1 p.m.

“Our Little Miss is a year-round scholarship pageant system that focuses on natural beauty,” spokeswoman Lisa Dunsmore wrote in an email. “Our system builds character, self-esteem, leadership and community by providing an outlet that gives recognition to beautiful and talented girls, and women of all ages throughout Florida. “

The Little Miss program operates two separate seasons, Dunsmore explained, one beauty and one official.

“When competing in the Official season (January - July), a talent is included in the scoring for ages 7 and up,” she said. “Beauty season (which runs from July through January) does not require a talent and is scored based on natural beauty and personality. All ages are welcome to compete and no previous pageant experience is necessary.”
