Man Arrested After Child Hospitalized With Extensive Injuries

After seeing the extent of the girl's injuries, Brandon Regional Hospital emergency staff called the sheriff's office.

BRANDON, FL -- A 28-year-old Hillsborough County man is facing multiple child abuse charges after doctors at Brandon Regional Hospital found visible injuries all over a child's body.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Allen Michael Stanford and his live-in girlfriend brought the girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter to the emergency room to be treated for injuries they said were self-inflicted.

Emergency physicians contacted the sheriff's office and detectives determined that the "significant and visible injuries to her entire body" were consistent with child abuse over a period of time.

The Child Protective investigations Division took the little girl into protective custody and, on Monday night, detectives arrested Stanford at Brandon Regional Hospital and charged him with three counts of child abuse with great bodily harm and one count of child neglect with great bodily harm.

He is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail without bond.
