Man Arrested In Brandon Shootout, Police Search For Suspects

Deputies arrested a six-time convicted felon for firing a gun in a Brandon apartment complex, and are searching for additional suspects.

BRANDON, FL — A six-time convicted felon was arrested after police said he fired a gun in a Brandon apartment complex on June 10.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is looking for more suspects involved in the shootout. (Video of gun fire available at the bottom of this article provided by Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.)

During the investigation, 60 shell casings and a Smith & Wesson magazine were found by officers at the Lakewood Place Apartments, 1701 Lake Chapman Drive, a news release said. A witness helped identify 21-year-old Luis Monge and told police they saw him fire a gun at the complex.

Monge is charged with felon in possession of a firearm and discharge of a firearm in public or residential property.

"The suspect and others involved recklessly discharged their firearms, which thankfully, in this case, did not injure an innocent bystander," said Sheriff Chad Chronister in a news release. "We are asking for the public's assistance to help identify other people involved in this senseless display of violence."

After detectives reviewed surveillance video, they also discovered three vehicles believed to have been involved in the shooting:

  • 2020 Gray Kia Sportage with Florida tag KXBW71 (VIN: KNDPM3AC6L7748213)
  • 2016 Red Honda Accord with no Florida tag (VIN: 1HGCR2F5XGA207227)
  • White Chevrolet Malibu (possible vehicle)
