PLANT CITY, FL -- A Plant City man died early Saturday after crashing into a Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy's car, then fleeing and crashing again.

According to the sheriff's office, Jesse Lamar Wood, 25, was driving a Hyundai Elantra west on State Road 60 at about 2 a.m. Nov. 17 when he crashed into the back of Sgt. James Jackson's cruiser, then drove away, deputies said.

Jackson's car was left inoperable by the crash, and he did not pursue Wood, who continued north on Limona Street at about 50 mph. As Wood crossed over the railroad tracks near Victoria Street, he lost control of his car. It rolled over onto its side, and Wood died at the scene.
