Man Jailed After Rear-Ending School Bus

The Florida Highway Patrol said he was driving carelessly and was using a stolen tag.

A 27-year-old Gibsonton man faces a number of charges following a crash with a Hillsborough County School bus Tuesday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Anthony C. Robertson Jr. was heading northbound in the outside lane of U.S. 41 north of Pembroke Avenue around 10 a.m. behind a school bus. When the driver of the bus, Monica E. Vieu, 40, of Riverview, stopped for a railroad crossing, Robertson failed to stop behind her.

Robertson’s Ford sedan crashed into the back of the bus and ended up lodged under its rear.

Neither driver was injured, but Troopers say Robertson faces a number of charges. He was cited for careless driving and for failure to have insurance. In addition, he was arrested for driving on a suspended license and displaying an unassigned, stolen tag on his vehicle. Hillsborough County Jail records indicate he was also charged with petty theft.

Robertson was being held at the Hillsborough jail Tuesday afternoon in lieu of $2,500 bond.
