Man Killed in Fire Engine Crash Identified

The accident happened along U.S. 301 Tuesday.

A 27-year-old Seffner man is dead following a Tuesday afternoon crash on U.S. 301.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Johnathan Scaglione was heading south on U.S. 301, south of West Franklin Road, around 2:27 p.m. when his Lincoln veered into the northbound lanes for reasons unknown.

The Lincoln crossed into the path of Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Engine No. 32 as it was traveling north in emergency mode, responding to another crash. The Lincoln and fire engine collided.

Troopers say Scaglione died at the scene of the accident. No firefighters were injured.

Investigators say the crash is not alcohol related. It remains unclear why Scaglione’s vehicle crossed lanes.

The crash closed portions of U.S. 301 for several hours.
