Motorcyclist Killed in State Road 60 Crash

A 30-year-old Plant City man is dead following a Wednesday night collision on Brandon Boulevard near Edwards Avenue.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jose Santiago-Marrero was traveling east on Brandon Boulevard on a 2005 Suzuki around 10:37 p.m. when the crash happened. He was just west of Edwards Avenue, moving at a high rate of speed, when a 2005 Nissan Armada driven by Alta James, 45, of Brandon stopped southbound on Edwards Avenue at Brandon Boulevard for a stop sign.

James made an improper left turn onto Brandon Boulevard, traveling into the motorcyclist’s path, a highway patrol media release stated. The vehicles collided and Santiago-Marrero was ejected from his bike.

Santiago-Marrero died at the scene.

Charges are pending further investigation.
