New Traffic Lights Coming To Brandon Area

Hillsborough County plans to start construction on the intersection improvements soon.

BRANDON, FL — Brandon area motorists will soon encounter new traffic signals at two area intersections. Hillsborough County has announced that construction on two separate projects will begin soon.

The first project up is a $590,000 undertaking that will put new lights at the intersection of Durant and Valrico roads. Work is expected to begin by the end of April. Construction also includes funding for enhanced pedestrian features and drainage improvements, the county wrote in an email to media.

Once the school year comes to a close, the county also plans to move ahead with a $565,000 project at the intersection of Bryan and Brooker roads. That project is on hold until classes are over for the year at nearby Burns Middle School, the county noted.

Both projects are funded through the county’s Public Works Capital Transportation Program. Construction at both intersections is expected to take about eight months. Work will take place on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., the county noted. Business access will be maintained.

Motorists may encounter temporary lane closures and traffic delays as work progresses, the county warned. Drivers are asked to exercise caution when passing through both areas and to be especially mindful of workers, pedestrians and other vehicles.

“These traffic signal installations and intersection enhancements are expected to improve traffic safety and operations for motorists and pedestrians once the projects are completed,” the county said.

Exact construction start dates have not yet been announced.
