To set the record straight, “bonsai is not a tree, it’s a gardening technique done to a tree,” says Evie Lynn Johnson, owner of Eve’s Garden in Land O’ Lakes, in this latest PatchCast video featuring news of interest from towns throughout the Bay area.
Every few months, Johnson said, her long-established business hosts a customer appreciation day featuring free drinks and food and giveaways and gifts.
It’s always, she said “a nice, serene day."

Instruction in bonsai techniques is offered on Saturdays. Bonsai involves the trimming and shaping of trees into miniature scale and the store offers for sale materials that are needed to do the work yourself. Also on sale are trees to craft, starting at $5, and finished trees to purchase, from $12 to $20,000.
Disney and Publix are among her customers, Johnson said.

As for bonsai, it originated in the Orient, Johnson said, “many, many thousands of years ago."
