Pedestrian Killed in Crash

A 30-year-old Seffner man is dead following a Monday night accident along County Road 579.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Antonio T. Sheard was crossing the road from the Super Stop Convenience Store around 8 p.m. when he was struck by a Nissan Altima.

The Altima’s driver, Jason C. Thompson, 31, also of Seffner, spotted Sheard and tried to swerve to avoid him, an email from the sheriff’s office stated.

Thompson, however, was not successful in avoiding the crash. His vehicle struck Sheard and then collided with a tree.

Sheard was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Thompson was taken to Florida Hospital Tampa for treatment of minor injuries.

The investigation into the accident remains active, the email noted. Alcohol is not a suspected factor in the crash, the agency said.
