New Cruiser Honors Pulse Victims

The Orlando Police Department's 'Vehicle No. 49' bears the name of all of the shooting victims.

Orlando, FL — It’s been just over a month since Omar Mateen walked into a crowded Orlando nightclub and opened fire, killing 49 people and wounding 53 others before he, too, was shot and killed.

The 49 victims who died following the June 12 massacre, described as the worst mass shooting in modern American history, have been honored in a number of ways since that fateful Sunday morning. Their stories have been shared by Hollywood movers and shakers, massive fundraisers have been launched to help those they left behind and a rainbow heart with the hashtag #OrlandoUnited has become the symbol of the city’s quest to come together after the tragedy.

Now, the Orlando Police Department, the agency whose officers stood on the front line after shots rang out in the popular gay bar, is offering its own mobile memorial. Cruiser No. 49 isn’t quite ready to hit the streets, but the agency recently shared a sneak peek on Facebook.

“A tribute to our community, forever changed, but strong,” the department wrote on Facebook while sharing a video featuring the new cruiser.

It remains unclear just how soon the new cruiser will hit the streets.
