Race Through New York With Jimmy Fallon

Universal Studios Florida plans to roll out the new ride in 2017.

Visitors to Orlando’s Universal Studios won’t get to ride out a twister much longer, but soon they’ll be able to race through New York City with Jimmy Fallon.

The theme park announced a new ride starring “The Tonight Show” host Tuesday on its official blog. The new ride is set to debut in 2017. Plans for the attraction began to unfold more than a year ago and the Nov. 2 closing of “Twister…Ride It Out” will pave the way for the ride’s construction.

It seems Universal had plans to create a ride featuring Fallon before park officials really knew just what shape the attraction would take.

“Jimmy wanted a fun and hilarious adventure that was also a valentine to his hometown of New York City,” Universal Creative’s creative director Jason Surrell explained in the post.

While Universal won’t completely tip its hat about what the new ride will offer, Surrell does offer some hints.

“You’ll rocket through the streets—and skies—of New York City, from the deepest subway tunnels to the tallest skyscrapers, encountering colorful characters, famous landmarks and anything else that comes to Jimmy’s mind—and ‘that is some weird, wild stuff,’ to quote an iconic previous host,” Surrell wrote.

Fallon, too, offers some insights about the ride.

“It’s scary, it’s fun, it’s exciting,” he announced on “The Tonight Show.” “You know the Harry Potter rides, it’s like that, except instead of Harry Potter it’s me and instead of Hogwarts it’s New York City.”

Twister…Ride It Out fans will want to visit the park soon. The ride is set to close down for good on Nov. 2.
