Report: Florida Has 2 of the Deadliest Interstates

One of the roadways cuts through the Tampa Bay area.

When it comes to deadly stretches of road, Florida has more than its share. Two of its interstates, in fact, rank among the country’s worst.

That’s according to Vox, which recently released a report on the country’s Top 10 most deadly interstates. One of Florida’s ranked roads happens to cut right through the Tampa Bay area.

To arrive at its findings, Vox crunched numbers from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration related to fatal interstate crashes in 2013. There were a total of 2,867 fatal accidents on major interstates in 2013. When Vox looked at where they occurred, its list of the 10 deadliest roads began to emerge. The rankings were based on the number of fatal accidents per 10 miles of roadway.

All told, I-95 itself “saw the largest number of fatal accidents for any interstate in 2013, at 83 accidents,” Vox noted.
