Riverview Teen Earns Eagle Honors

The Boy Scout raised two flag poles at Lithia Springs Regional Park for his community service project.

Andrew McCorkle has made history. At least with Wesley Chapel’s Boy Scout Troop 2 he has. He’ll go down in that organization’s books as its first-ever Eagle Scout.

The 18-year-old Riverview resident was awarded the honor during a July 26 ceremony at Atonement Lutheran Church.

“Rising from the ranks of Cub Scouts, Andrew progressively achieved rank and a total of 24 merit badges en route to his Eagle,” wrote Stephen Wheeler, Troop spokesman in an email. “An avid outdoorsman, Andrew has participated in numerous high-adventure activities, including hiking portions of the Appalachian Trail and earning the prestigious 50-Miler Award.”

As part of the Eagle requirements, McCorkle had to complete a community service project. He chose to plan, design and obtain donations to place two flag poles at Lithia Springs Regional Park in Hillsborough County, Wheeler added.
