School Bd meeting: Self-imposed Ignorance of your school board

As usual there are 4 un-named administrative appointments on the school board agenda this Tuesday and that is how people like new Deputy Superintendent Cathy Valdes get promoted rather than fired. Just read the deposition of April Griffin at this link and see how it works- your school board exists in a virtual state of self-imposed ignorance. And that’s apparently the way they like it as it provides plausible deniability for one thing- such as when students die riding buses.

Start on page 27 in April Griffin’s deposition in the Herrera lawsuit and you will be shocked at the read. An excerpt is given below.

It’s quite a juxtaposition to think that the school board that is supposed to be EDUCATING your children appears to prefer a state of ignorance for themselves. No wonder Hillsborough county schools perform so poorly when the school board is not only ignorant of these matters but they allow a system to exist that keeps them ignorant month after month at virtually every school board meeting. No wonder they are ineffective.

Excerpt from April Griffin Deposition in Herrera Lawsuit (page 27):

Q.(question)· · What if you were being asked to get a recommendation on an administrative appointment for a high-level person -- perhaps not a deputy superintendent -- perhaps an assistant superintendent or a director of a department reporting to an assistant superintendent, what if that was given to you just minutes before a meeting was about to begin? How would you have any ability to even determine whether there would be any reason to object whatsoever?

A. (April Griffin)· · (Shakes head.) I don't know how to answer that question.

Q.· · Because there is no mechanism for you to do that?

A. (April Griffin)· · Correct.

Q.· · Is that a source of concern or frustration for board members?

A. (April Griffin)· · It has been in the past.

Q.· · So going back to your tenure on the board since 2006, can you -- can you remember any situation, does any situation stand out where the board has rejected an administrative appointment of the superintendent?

A. (April Griffin)· · The board has not rejected any that I'm familiar with.

The School board fails to take action. Superintendent Elia failed to take action. Cathy Valdes Failed to take action. Will you also fail to take action?

Do something/anything to stop this travesty of justice. Right now- email your school board representative and copy your congressman. Speak at the school board meeting.

The school board regular meeting is Tuesday, May 13 at 3 pm also at 901 E. Kennedy Blvd, Tampa, FL.

The school board workshop is Wednesday, May 14 at 9:30 am at 901 E. Kennedy Blvd, Tampa, FL.

Make yourself known and demand that they stop this fraud and abuse and fire Cathy Valdes.
