SeaWorld Sets Opening Date For Mako Roller Coaster

The new thrill ride will be the Orlando area's longest, fastest and tallest ride yet, according to SeaWorld.

ORLANDO, FL — SeaWorld has announced a grand opening date for its latest thrill ride attraction. Mako is expected to “surface” on June 10.

Park officials made the announcement Monday, giving area thrill seekers a date for their calendars. The ride’s last piece of track was put into place in mid-March.

At 4,760 feet, Mako will be the Orlando area’s longest, tallest and fastest ride when it opens, park officials say. The ride climbs 200 feet in the air and runs at speeds of up to 73 mph.

“On Mako you’ll experience what it’s like to be this apex predator, surging through the water at top speed and chasing prey throughout a massive reef,” Brian Morrow, SeaWorld’s Senior Director, Development and Design, was quoted on the company's website as saying. “It will be a wild mix of fear, thrills and fun.”

Mako isn’t the only new ride coming soon to a Florida theme park. Busch Gardens announced late last month that the final piece had been put into place on its soon-to-open Cobra’s Curse. That spin coaster is also expected to open sometime this summer. An official date has not yet been announced.
