21-Year-Old Man Killed In Fiery Crash On Selmon Exit Ramp

BRANDON, FL — A 21-year-old Bradenton man has died following a fiery crash on Interstate 75 at the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway Sunday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 2:38 a.m., a tow truck operated by All American Transport and Towing of Tampa was parked on the exit ramp of the expressway from northbound I-75, loading a Jeep Liberty onto its bed.

The owner of the Jeep Liberty, Daniel Vincent Schaffer of Bradenton, and tow truck operator Marc R. Smith, 29, of Dover were standing behind and to the side of the tow truck when they were struck by a Dodge Ram driven by Alexa Marie Salvatore, 27, of Jacksonville.

Upon impact, all three vehicles burst into flames.

Schaffer died at the scene. Smith was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. And Salvatore was taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries.

Charges against Salvatore are pending.
