SWAT Vehicle Fire Created a Bang on U.S. 301

The road was closed in both directions for a time on Thursday.

Motorists traveling on U.S. 301 in the Riverview area Thursday morning likely found themselves stuck in some major traffic courtesy of a SWAT vehicle fire.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, two of its SWAT team members were on the way to Shields Middle School for the Great American Teach-In when they noticed their vehicle was smoking.

Smoke, the agency wrote in an email to media, was coming from the generator area. The deputies pulled over and used fire extinguishers, but discovered the flames returned. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue was called to the scene to put out the blaze.
