Valrico Motorist Involved in Fatal I-75 Crash

A 43-year-old Wimauma woman is dead following a wreck on Interstate 75 south of Gibsonton Drive early Friday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Juana Medellin was walking in the center lane and crossed into the path of a southbound Honda Civic driven by Mieko Ellen Franz, 55, of Valrico.

Franz’s car struck the woman, who later died at Tampa General Hospital.

Troopers are unsure why Medellin was walking on the Interstate.

No charges were filed in the crash.
