Watch: Cop's Dance Moves Will Put a Smile On Your Face

The Lakeland Police officer busted out the moves in response to a challenge.

When a member of Lakeland’s Sunrise Community threw down the gauntlet for a dance challenge during last year’s National Night Out observance, Officer Preston Chatmon decided to pick it up.

The much-anticipated challenge was staged during Tuesday’s 2015 National Night Out celebration. Decked out in full uniform, Chatmon busted out his best moves to Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” while challenger Sean showed him a thing or two about how it’s really done, the city of Lakeland reported on its Facebook page.

It seems Sunrise member Sean asked the police department last year to “find an officer with equally cool dance moves.” While Chatmon thought he just might be the officer to get the job done, the city reports he didn’t quite pull it off.

“Everyone had a great time, but Sean will remains the dancing champ,” the Facebook post states. To illustrate its point, the city posted a video of the dance-off to its page. That video has since enjoyed more than 14,000 times.

Sunrise Community of Polk County is a nonprofit organization “whose mission is to provide people with disabilities the assistance and support necessary to enable them to live valued lives in the community,” the group’s website states. It provides such services as adult day training, companion services, respite care, supported employment and residential habilitation, among others.

Chatmon isn’t the only law enforcement officer in the region to make headlines with his dance moves. The Sarasota Police Department recently earned national honors for a photo that shows two of its officers dancing with residents during a community barbecue. That particular photo received recognition from the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
