Watch: Jamie Lee Curtis Pays Orlando Cops A Visit

Jamie Lee Curtis stopped by the Orlando Police Department to thank first responders for their actions following the Pulse shooting.

Orlando, FL — When it comes to star status, actress Jamie Lee Curtis says the first responders at the Orlando Police Department have it.

“I just appreciate you, and I want you to know other people do too,” the Curtis told members of the Orlando Police Department during a Tuesday visit to their headquarters.

Curtis’ visit to Orlando comes in the wake of the June 12 mass shooting at the Pulse Orlando Night Club & Ultra Bar, a popular gay bar. Shooter Omar Mateen, 29, killed 49 people and wounded 53 others early that Sunday morning before he, too, was shot and killed by police. The massacre, classified as an act of terror by the federal government, is the worst mass shooting in American history.

“Life hinges on a couple of seconds you never see coming,” Curtis said. “And, that’s what happened here a couple weeks ago … and the compilation of that will be love.”

Curtis’ trip to the police department was meant simply to show her support for the men and women who worked to save others the night of Mateen’s rampage, the police department explained on Facebook. Officers, the agency noted, were “thrilled” by Curtis’ surprise visit.

Curtis told those gathered at the department she believes Orlando will rise from the tragedy to become known “as the city of love.”

Orlando has had a number of high-profile visitors in the days and weeks following the shooting. President Barack Obama also visited the city, and so did Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

Public support for survivors and victims’ families has continued to pour in as well. A fundraising campaign on GoFundMe, in fact, broke records for that platform. Equality Florida’s fundraising push has topped $6.7 million with a new goal of $10 million set as of Wednesday.
