Wrong-Way Driver Arrested on I-4

Troopers were alerted by other motorists who reported the man was driving slowly and stopping frequently.

A 32-year-old Winter Haven man faces a number of charges after Florida Highway Patrol troopers found him driving the wrong way on Interstate 4 Monday morning.

According to the agency, a call came in about a white 2015 Toyota four-door that was initially heading westbound in the westbound lanes. The driver of the vehicle, troopers were told, was going very slowly and was making frequent stops.

When state troopers caught up with the man in Polk County he had somehow managed to turn his vehicle around and was heading east in the westbound lanes with no headlights on, an email from the highway patrol stated.

“The troopers activated their emergency lights, the driver passed them, pulled over to the inside paved shoulder and stopped,” the email said. “Upon contacting the driver it was apparent he was heavily intoxicated.”

The driver was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail where he refused a breath test, the email noted.
