Flagler County appeals Bunnell landfill approval amid secrecy concerns (clickorlando.com) — A massive 610-acre landfill proposed just west of Bunnell is facing a formal appeal from Flagler County, which questions whether city planners followed land-use rules and gave enough review time. Nearby residents and business owners are alarmed about secrecy, groundwater, traffic, odors, and property values as the fight moves to the Bunnell City Commission and potentially into state proceedings.
2. Bicyclist killed in crash on U.S. 1 in Flagler County, FHP says (news-journalonline.com) — A Bunnell man was killed early Sept. 15 while biking across U.S. 1 south of Otis Stone Hunter Road, when he was struck by a pickup and then a sedan, according to state troopers. Another bicyclist and three drivers, including a Bunnell woman, were uninjured, underscoring the dangers residents face crossing this busy highway to reach work.
3. Voices of Memory: From Both Sides of the Bridge (evolve2succeed.com) — Bunnell residents' memories are central to a new oral history project exploring how the Moody Bridge once divided Black and white communities in Flagler County. Their stories of segregation, resilience, and everyday life are being recorded, archived in local museums, and featured in a short documentary so future generations better understand this part of local history.
4. FCSO, Joe Barile give different accounts of former chief deputy's resignation (wftv.com) — Flagler County's sheriff confirms that former Chief Deputy Joe Barile resigned from his Bunnell-based post after Sheriff Rick Staly lost confidence in his leadership, while Barile insists he did nothing wrong and chose to step down over differing values. Internal notes describe concerns about his management style and morale, and the chief deputy position will now remain vacant as duties are redistributed.
